Soap Nuts - A Natural Detergent

Store/Soap Nuts - A Natural Detergent

Soapnuts are not really a nut. They are a fruit that grows on a tree. It grows wild in India and the tree is called (sapindus mukorossi). These fruits contain a natural detergent called saponin.

When added to water they release the saponin to create mild suds. It works effectively by removing dirt and dissolving oils from clothing and other surfaces.

Use about 4 whole nuts in a wash bag. You should get approx. 6-8 washes with cold water from this. You can then put them in your compost or garden.

HANDY HINT - I squeeze my soap nuts after about 6 washes to see if there are many suds left. If there are little bubbles come out of the nuts you can use them again.
